The New and Improved Matching Algorithm

We’ve made changes to our matching algorithm which will now present you first with more relevant, compatible potential roommates with better quality profiles, making your roommate search even faster and more efficient.

When we started Diggz, our vision was to create a roommate matching service that will help people find roommates that are the right fit in terms of lifestyle, personality and preferences. We had built our algorithm around that; Our algorithm determines the order of which users are presented uniquely to each individual Diggz user in a personalized manner. Since the beginning, we have added a more features and information that go into each profile, such as personal references, Facebook verification, mutual friends, common hometowns and schools and more. We also analyzed our own data to gain a better understanding on what our users are looking for in a new roommate.

We have now updated our algorithm which incorporates new and revised assumptions, and also promotes profiles that are more robust and complete. The key determination of your rank on others’ search results still remains your compatibility with each other. However, you can further boost your profile by keeping your account active and complete (including some of the features above like verifying your profile on Facebook, adding references, inviting friends, making sure you’ve posted a profile picture and of your room, etc.)

For example, having a similar budget, move in date, interest in the same areas or neighborhoods, and other factors like cleanliness, smoking, and drinking habits will all drive up your rank score. In cases where profiles are very similar to yours, completing the verifications and other profile information will show you above those similar profiles and provide you with more visibility.

If you are still currently looking for a roommate, we encourage you to ensure your profile and your room listing (for those offering a room) are complete. Then we invite you to browse around and check for yourself if you notice a difference in the results.
