Rooms for rent by coliving companies across the country will now be included in our roommate search. Adding another accommodation option for you to consider.
There are two major trends today that are impacting where and how we live; The first, is rising rents nationwide. Even affordable cities and neighborhoods are becoming, well, less affordable. Making the case for living with roommates even stronger and for some unescapable. The second trend, is working remotely, which for some means working from anywhere. More and more people are moving out of big cities like San Francisco and New York and trying out temporary life in a new city and new surroundings without needing to find a new job and a new career.
To address these two trends, we are introducing a new type of shared accommodation to our platform — Coliving rooms. Coliving is a growing trend of a type of shared housing that offers individual and flexible leases, fully furnished homes, amenity rich properties, community events and like-minded residents and roommates. And in most cases, this is an affordable option that doesn’t require high upfront costs like paying a broker, buying new furniture or moving your existing furniture. Colivings exist in many cities across the country and not just the major hubs such as New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Boston. In fact, you can find colivings in cities such as Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Raleigh, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Nashville, Toronto, Miami and more. We aim to include the best Coliving offers from both big and small Coliving partners.
Since we launched, we have kept our core roommate finder clean of any advertisements, commercial operators or unrelated offers from real estate brokers. We gave the spotlight to individuals who want to connect with others around a shared goal of finding a roommate. But now we are making some changes and adding relevant coliving listings to our roommate and rooms search. Since colivings offer a shared housing experience with roommates (and additional perks and flexibility), we believe that they are relevant and worth including in our roommate search.
Why live in a coliving?
If you’re more of a social person and want to live in a place that encourages bonding and engagement between residents (or just a way to save money on rent), coliving might be a good fit for you. This type of living provides a great environment for newcomers, those just starting their careers, or even digital nomads who want to make new friends and to meet like-minded individuals from all walks of life. Co-livings also allows you to skip the work of finding roommates or having to worry about them paying the rent. Leases are individual and you can rent a coliving room for a few months or a year. You also don’t have to worry about moving or buying new furniture since the apartment and rooms come furnished (some colivings might offer a furnished room as an extra option). So if you want an easy and flexible move, this is a great option. Some co-livings even allow you to switch between their locations, so you can get a taste for different neighborhoods. As with all things shared, co-living spaces are about more than just sharing an apartment; they’re also about community. It can be hard to meet people or make new friends when you have a busy schedule or are new to a city. Living in a Coliving can help with that.
